The Q'ero People
The Q'ero are the last direct descendants of the Inca, living in remote high-altitude villages at elevations between 14,000 and 17,000 feet. They preserved the purest form of Andean spiritual traditions for over 500 years. Everything is alive, conscious, and interconnected — all life is energy (kawsay) in different forms.
Kawsay — Living Energy
Kawsay is the fundamental life force that animates all existence. What we perceive as solid matter is organized patterns of living energy. Consciousness and energy are inseparable. Sami is refined, beneficial energy — light, flowing, and expansive. Hucha is congested energy — not evil, but simply stuck, awaiting transformation.
The Poq'po — Energy Body
The poq'po is the luminous energy field surrounding the physical body. It contains seven chakras, energy channels (ceques), the chumpi energy belt, and luminous fibers connecting you to all things. Maintaining a healthy poq'po through saminchakuy and grounding is central to Q'ero practice.
Sacred Animals
The Condor (Kuntur) represents vision and cosmic connection through Hanan Pacha. The Jaguar (Otorongo) embodies personal power and presence in Kay Pacha. The Serpent (Amaru) brings transformation and healing from Ukhu Pacha. The Hummingbird (Q'enti) teaches joy and impossible journeys.
Pachamama & the Apus
Pachamama is the living consciousness of Earth — nurturing, teaching, healing. The Apus are powerful mountain spirits, protectors and teachers. Humans have a sacred contract with Pachamama: she provides everything for physical life; we serve as her conscious caretakers and priests.
The Sacred Calendar
The Andean year follows solar cycles, lunar phases, agricultural rhythms, and stellar movements. Inti Raymi (June solstice), Pawkar Raymi (March equinox), Qoya Raymi (September equinox), and the entire month of August honoring Pachamama mark the sacred calendar.
The Four Pillars of the Path
A person who masters all four becomes a Kuraq Akulleq, a fully realized human being.
